Free Conservation Tour & Workshop

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Oklahoma Tribal Conservation Advisory Council (OTCAC) and Farm Service Agency (FSA)  have partnered to bring you a free conservation tour and workshop on Thursday, April 13, 2023. The tour will be on Indigo Acres, and we will also be holding a conservation workshop for USDA agencies and conservation districts to share their available programs.

We are sending this email to respectfully request all speakers, conservation district employees, district board members, and Team 10 members to register for the conservation workshop and tour being held on April 13. The link to register is https://forms.gle/hgtFcQ8Pfur5bkj66.

The workshop and tour will begin at the Guthrie Fairgrounds, located in the Educational Building, at 215 Fairgrounds Road, in Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044. The workshop will start at 9:00 a.m. with an introduction of the tour. We will depart for the tour at 9:30 a.m. and return to the Fairgrounds for lunch at 12:30 p.m. At 1:00 p.m. the following USDA agencies will provide updates on their program, NRCS, FSA, and the National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS). The following conservation districts will be available to share information on their state cost share programs include Canadian, Logan, Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Cleveland, and McClain counties. If your conservation district would like to be on the agenda, please email me at carol.crouch@usda.gov by April 5th.

The tour will be held at Indigo Acres in Edmond.  Kevin Marshall, owner, and operator of Indigo Acres has graciously offered the opportunity for us to do a tour of his farm. He has had eight successful years managing seasonal high tunnels. He will share important information on the following; why healthy soil is important, what fresh plants and crops to consider growing, design consideration on a seasonal high tunnel, how to make the best of a four-season growing period, and an overview on a “Market Garden” system for a seasonal high tunnel.

As always, we are requesting your support to extend invitations to your produces and especially those with seasonal high tunnels to join us. Please keep in mind this outreach meeting can be counted by all six counties. I will send a press release as soon as it is approved for you to share with your local newspapers.
